A Grade 1-listed English Heritage site, this fortified manor house was originally built between 1460 and 1486 by the Heydon family outside the small village of Baconsthorpe. In use for several hundred years, infighting within the family and financial hardships saw much of the castle fall into ruin, as well as demolished for sale of building materials.
