Squatters' Rights: 216 Newmarket Road: Exteriors
I don't know too much about this one. A local news website reported on plans for the derelict building to be demolished to make way for flats, and I seem to remember reading somewhere that is from 1930s, but that's about it.
I've eyed this one up for a couple of years, but despite it clearly being derelict - it commands an imposing spot over the slip road into Eaton - there have always been clear signs of squatter inhabitation. Nothing to suggest this would be unsafe, but it just put me off wandering round there alone. Eventually, I got fed up waiting, and decided to chance it.
The main building, the 3 storey house, is for the most part gutted inside: most rooms on the upper floors no longer even have floorboards. The surrounding garden is large and unsurprisingly overgrown. In the same grounds, however, is a double garage strewn with various rotting items (VHS tapes, books, pieces of clothing, toys). I didn't see anyone, but the rooms above have clearly been recently used as a squat, complete with pieces of furniture, bits of food, a TV and phone (though there were no signs of an active electric supply).
A decent-sized site so I took plenty of shots. Apologies in advance.
