Autumn Afternoons
A cold afternoon walk along the cliffs at Weybourne. Golden hours, the cawing of birds, the crashing of waves.

Christmas in Doggerland
Another couple of images lurking on my hard drive, from (I think) January 2011. It was certainly into a new year. Have always quite liked the image of discarded (natural) Christmas trees following the festive season. They make the unremitting misery of January feel even more bleak. This tree, dumped in the wash on the beach just outside West Runton, also ties into my neverending fascination with the decaying coast.

On the Sands
"I could see no reason why used tram tickets, bits of driftwood, buttons and old junk from attics and rubbish heaps should not serve well as materials for paintings; they suited the purpose just as well as factory-made paints... It is possible to cry out using bits of old rubbish, and that's what I did, gluing and nailing them together." - Kurt Schwitters

The Village Falling Into the Sea pt. 1
The battered sea defences at Happisburgh. Changes in governmental policies over the years has led to the discontinuation of coastal erosion management.
In Febuary 2011, local media reported that compensation deals had been struck between at-risk homeowners and the North Norfolk District Council.

The Throne of King Cnut
According to twelfth century historian Henry of Huntingdon, the eleventh century King Canute, upon failing to halt the waves having placed his throne by the shore and commanding the tide to stop, declared: "Let all men know how empty and worthless is the power of kings, for there is none worthy of the name, but He whom heaven, earth, and sea obey by eternal laws."
