The Vehicle Graveyard: Medler's Scrapyard pt. 1

The abandoned, quietly rotting remains of Medler's Scrapyard, in Hevingham, apparently one of Norfolk's main scrapyards for years and years. On the edge of the woods, these remaining ghosts of vehicles and buildings have just been left to die alone in the shade of the trees.

I excitedly took a whole aftertoon's worth of pictures, so will put them up in bite-sized stages. Whilst I'm certainly not claiming any quality for my admittedly amateurish photography, images like these practically take themselves.

Got eaten alive by mosquitos that afternoon, too.

Abandoned Boozers of Norwich #8: Cricketers Rest

Closed in March 2010. Opened as The Beerhouse back in 1836. In the past few years it was a regular venue (or, rather, its smaller outhouse - The Barn) for punk, rock and alternative music gigs.

An Empty Bookshop Is a Terrible Sight

Former antiquarian and second hand bookshop that had a terrific bargain basement. If memory serves right, during its final week of trading, one could fill a carrier bag of basement titles for the princely sum of one pound. Got some nicely tattered film history paperbacks from the '70s that week.

The Ruins of St Mary

The ruins of St Mary, Great Melton, stand in the same graveyard of All Saints, the church that replaced it. St Mary operated until the 1880s, when it was decided to renovate the larger, practically derelict, All Saints, and move the congregation across. St Mary was demolished and the materials used to repair its neighbour, only its tower spared.
